Elliott’s Natural Foods began as a passion project for Georgana and Walker Elliott in 1952. They had just welcomed a baby into the family and wanted to make sure they had a ready supply of healthy food to nourish that child, and the next one on the way. The Elliotts drove to coastal dairies and farms on a weekly basis to bring back raw milk and honey, as well as vegetables for the family and neighbors. After a while, they opened the first health food store in Sacramento – a small shop in Fair Oaks for a year before moving to a larger shopping center, where it is now. The store is still owned and operated by the family today. Fun fact, Elliott’s Natural Foods is older than both NASA and Disneyland and may be the oldest health food store in California.
